W00t! You have almost overtaken me in households, despite the Great Fetus Mass Extinction! I have 14 households + 1 college.

I will probably never have a college though, I never bought the EP. On the other hand, it seems a LOT easier to reach career lifetime wants with that one installed.
I succeed maybe every 10th time, on the verge of my sim's death, but all of you with university take a job on Monday and reach the top of career before the week ends, so I might reconsider...

Well, sims can jump right into a high-level job if they a) have graduated from college, b) use the computer rather than the paper to look for jobs and c) have the skills and family friends required. You could get up to 5 career rewards in one day. I consider this cheating, but the rules don't say so.

I don't think you can go straight to the top of the career that way, but very close at least.

In the Near Future, sims need a college degree to get anything more than temp jobs, and they have to start at the bottom (at least in their first career). So mine spend some more time. But having that extra life phase to build skills and win friends is a big help. Of course, you could do much of the same with teens, if you drive them hard.

Like you I consider getting the career rewards for graduates through the computer as cheating. Mine only get the career reward once they get to the TOC - hence Glen Denton only brought home his koi pond on the day he became 'Hand of Poseidon'. Otherwise it's all just too easy!
